About the Rocca of Soragna

The Rocca (an italian word that stands for a mansion in between a castle and a fortress) of Soragna is the official residence of Prince Diofebo Meli Lupi of Soragna, whose family built the castle and lived in it for centuries. The Meli Lupis, initially lords, then marquises, and from the sixteenth century princes of Soragna, dominated a vast territory for a long period as semi-independent rulers, only formally subjected to the Holy Roman Emperors. They gradually transformed their fortress into a palatial renaissance and baroque residence. Today the Rocca, a real living museum, is one of the most visited private monuments in Italy
