About Castle of San Fabiano

The Borgo San Fabiano, beside the castle, includes many farm buildings and the chapel dedicated to the Pope San Fabiano, Christian martyr, already known in 867 AD. The fourteenth century tower was part of a system of signaling towers that connected, by fire and smoke signals, the borders of the Republic of Siena with the city hall’s tower and the government of the Republic. The charming little church was a stopping point for pilgrims on the Via Francigena, the pilgrim’s route between northern europe and Rome. At the end of 1400 the castle was transformed into a fortified farm from Forteguerri noble family who owned it until 1916. In 1950 the estate was bought by the Counts Fiorentini, Roman entrepreneurs, who were engaged for a decade in the renovation of the buildings, including 25 farms, restructuring the Farm settlement until it reached an area of over 750 hectares. Thanks to their efforts the San Fabiano castle became a thriving agricultural center, reference and focus of the Val d’Arbia, in the Crete Senesi. The current owners, Counts Andrea and Beatrice  Fiorentini, run with great care the castle, the activities and the manufacture of traditional food quality products.
